Amma Ariyan – 1986

I believe in time. As Vijayan, from Nadodikkattu says, “Ellathinum athintethaaya samayam und Dasa” (Everything has its own time to happen). If not, why did I randomly saw a documentary on Naxalism in the evening and this movie by night?

I was on a mood to skip the whole movie in 2x speed and know the storyline only. But, within 10 minutes, the film made me in the path.

The plot of the story revolves around the suicide of a young man. His friends travel from Wayanad to Fort Kochi to convey this message to his mother. The voyage which started from a single man was added up to more than 20 plus young man. During their journey, they come across different struggles in which people are engaged. The protagonist tells us the story of each place that they travel through during the voyage. It is like a letter to his mother. And it is also, to the mother of the whole.

Other than the plot, I would like to tell you about the sound design of this film. The movie starts with silence and then a minimal background score. As it progresses, the sound of Maddalam spreads everywhere through their pathThe dead man, Hari, was who played this instrument.

Also, I found this movie that brought the camera to the roads. It captured the real life of people. And to the ones who think about the connection of Naxalism and this movie, FYI, Hari and his friends were Naxalites.
